Music ‘to blame” for Suicides in Britain

June 9th, 2008

The Daily Mail ate a little of what it often tries to sow the other day when a group of  emo teeenagers marched on their offices in london.

“The right-leaning newspaper has been singled out for being the “worst offender” according to the MCR Buzznet Community, pointing out that the paper referred to My Chemical Romance as a ’suicide cult’ band when it covered the suicide of 13-year-old Hannah Bond.”

I really, really object to people trying to pin problems like suicide, stabbings and other behaviours on media and especially music (in my opinion, the best media around). I’m a huge fan of My Chemical Romance, they are a greaty band and have some really great riffs and songs. However, I’m a smily blond guy, always laughing, rarely depressed and I’ve never considered killing myself after listening to Emo Music. People who do, obviously have a problem already and “The Daily Mail” obviously want to use music as a scapegoat for this.

As I said before, I am one of the most well balanced people (in terms of music taste) you will ever meet, from ACDC to Bach, Limp Bizkit to Placebo, Shakira to  The Temptations. However, on this one, I take sides with the Emos…

Odd Dreams

June 7th, 2008

Had a few very strange dreams last night. I’m one of those people that doesn’t dream very often and when I do, they are really really wierd.

So anyway, first was that we were in a tree house and that it collapsed and killed all my friends but I was able to escape. Secondly I found myself under siege in my own home. It was the night of a big football game which didn’t go down well for the local team. That meant that all of the hooligans were out and about and some stormed my house. Managed to lock myself upstairs and they left me to it, proceeding to trash the downstairs of my house.

I don’t know if it was cheese I ate but that was some seriously wierd stuff for me.

JamesRavenscroft.com - my web home!

June 6th, 2008

Welcome to my new online blog. I decided to start a blog after wondering what would happen if I shared my thoughts visions, computer software and other crazy stuff with the public. So here it all is, in one tidy place.

If you hadn’t guessed, my name is James Ravenscroft and I’m a Computing Student from the United Kingdom. I am madder than a box of frogs but that doesn’t stop my friends from thoroughly enjoying my company (I hope).

I am a bit of an amateur photographer although not very arty. I consider photographs very important as memories and like to show my friends what I have been up to in recent and past times.

I am currently working on several software packages both web and desktop based. As a great believer in Open source, I have decided to publish most of these under the GPL or LGPL licenses from this blog. More information on these packages will be available soon.

I am also a bit of a music fanatic. I pride myself on my wide knowledge of trivia and my favourite band is Van Halen - a thouroughly godly creation! It is one of my many lifetime aspirations to go and see Van Halen Live, however they just finishe their american tour and there has been no news of any upcoming World tours as of yet. More on them later.

So there’s just time for me to round of this post by hoping that you will stick around for more fun and frolicks and free programs!
